Wonderful Wednesday #6

Hi everyone!

And we’re back to another Wonderful Wednesday post! How lovely are the lighter evenings and longer days???  We’ve been tending to our little garden and getting it ready for some time spent outdoors.  We will not be defeated by patio weeds! Roll on warmer days and plenty of sunshine.

So on to all the happy stuff this past week.

Taking the camera out

On Saturday I popped to Hall Place in Bexley for a little photography.  It really is a lovely little place.  It has a river, plenty of geese and ducks and the most beautiful gardens.  The historical house is pretty grand too and its where we go for our yearly Christmas tradition of dinner and a show.  During the summer months it even hosts an open air cinema.  I practiced capturing movement with my camera and took some snaps for my current project too.  It was lovely to be outside in the sunshine and not feel cold!

A day shopping

I picked my mum up at 11am on the same day as we planned to go to the shops so she could help me pick out a spring/summer jacket.  I went for a classic beige mac in the end (timeless!) and I am really pleased with it.  We stopped for toasted cheese sandwich’s and tea half way through and had a proper catch up.  I am so tempted to put the winter coats away now but I do not trust the British weather enough.  Who knows it could be snowing by next week!

Dinner & a movie

A classic date night it there ever was one.  Me and the hubby try and have a proper date night once a fortnight and it usually involves food.  We had dinner at Bella Italia quite early at 5pm so we practically had the place to ourselves which I quite like now and again.  Then we tried the brand new local cinema and watched the new si-fi movie called Life.  It was an intense edge of your seat film and we loved it!  If you’re into si-fi or just Ryan Reynolds I’d really recommend it.  You can’t beat a space movie on the big screen!

Mothers day

On Sunday we celebrated with both our mums.  We saw my mum in the morning/afternoon and had a little tea party – a selection of sandwiches followed by scones with jam and cream.  Then in the late afternoon/early evening we saw my husbands mum and enjoyed a beef roast dinner with his family followed by home made apple crumble.  It was a lovely day filled with family and lovely food and the perfect way to finish off a great weekend.

Change of working hours

As I mentioned in yesterdays post I’ve been able to change my working hours to 8-4pm.  Its quite a shock how different it makes my day considering its only an hour earlier.  I’m always up early anyway and lately felt like my slow mornings, although great for me mentally, have been a bit wasteful and actually getting home earlier and being able to wind down sooner in the evenings is having a more positive effect than my mornings.  So as my office is only about a 15min drive from my house I’m home by 4:15pm most days! Yay to that!  I’m sure I’m going to love it even more when I can get straight out into my garden after work and while away the hours in the sunshine 🙂

Current book

I’ve really been getting back into reading lately.  I read for an hour or so when I get home from work as it helps me unwind and then in bed before going to sleep.  Right now I’m reading Trust by David Moody and I can’t put it down.  It’s about aliens becoming stranded on earth in the UK and its based around a particular character and his take on the whole situation – I really recommend it.  If you have any si-fi / alien invasion books to recommend please do in the comments below!

Finding balance

Lately I’ve been working on not over working myself….yes I know that sounds counter productive…but you know what I mean!  From full-time work, to writing a blog to learning a new skill and attending classes it doesn’t leave much time to just rest or see loved ones.  I’ve been planning out my weekends over the space of a month at a time so I can schedule in time for everything that I want to do.  I know I need to spend more time on photography so next weekend I now have plans with my father-in-law to go out for the day and get some practice in.  Getting home earlier each day has also meant I have some down time before the hubby gets home and we start our evening together so I’m feeling much more rested each night.

The lovely Sally is the one who got me thinking about the warm and fuzzies over on Sally Tangle. There’s even more lovely folks who join in on the happiness and mid week merriment so be sure to pop over to them for more of the good stuff –  Jo, Helen, Michelle, Sarah, Kate, Cat, Sam, El , Kerri’s, Mimmi’s, Martina’s , Peta’s , AND Emma‘s #wonderfulwednesday posts. Don’t forget to check out the #wonderfulwednesday on Twitter too, the WW family is growing all the time!

I know what you mean about winter coats! I’m still wearing mine but just over a t-shirt – last Monday we had snow and then blazing sun all weekend. You never can tell! I see a sci-fi thread here so will keep you in mind if I come across any, Although not my cup of tea, my boyfriend and best friend LOVE sci-fi so I do come across my fair share! Happy Wednesday!
